AppSumo Taco Truck Roundup: October 15, 2024 Deals Reviewed
A weekly roundup of AppSumo lifetime deals covering Survey Noodle, Site Behaviour, Kroto, and Doplac, plus a look at Noah Kagan's important State of AppSumo address on platform trust and LTD closures.
Survey Noodle: AI-Powered Survey Creation and Analysis
Survey Noodle is a survey creation and analysis tool that leans heavily into AI to streamline the entire process. It covers all the basics you'd expect — multiple question types including star ratings, multiple choice, and long-form responses, plus conditional logic that lets you redirect respondents or skip questions based on their answers.
The AI features are where things get interesting. You can generate an entire survey from a simple prompt, complete with questions and answer options. From there, you can tweak everything by hand or use AI to generate additional questions. Sharing options include branded links with custom domain support, and QR codes are available at tier three and above — handy if you want to print one out for a checkout counter or event.
Analysis is arguably where Survey Noodle shines brightest. The AI can summarize responses for every question, and there's sentiment analysis available on higher tiers. The standout feature is the Noodle Bot, which is essentially a ChatGPT-style interface trained on your survey responses. You ask it questions about what your customers are thinking, and it delivers insights without you having to comb through hundreds of individual responses.
That said, there are some rough edges. Bugs cropped up during testing — AI-generated surveys would sometimes throw errors claiming the survey name was already taken, with no way to fix it other than changing the prompt. Some screens still feel developer-focused, asking for things like Bootstrap CSS selectors that would confuse most users. The bigger concern is pricing: while tier one starts at $69, most users will want tier three at $269 to unlock the best features like sentiment analysis and multiple team members. Score: 6.7 out of 10.
Noah Kagan's State of AppSumo Address
This isn't a tool review — it's something arguably more important. AppSumo founder and CEO Noah Kagan sent out an email titled "The State of AppSumo Address" in response to a wave of lifetime deal closures over the preceding two to three weeks that had the community understandably worried.
The message is worth reading in full. The TLDR: AppSumo acknowledges the frustrations, commits to significantly improving partner quality, and promises increased response to product closures. What stands out is the transparency and the concrete commitments. They're taking personal responsibility and even discussing legal accountability for partners who shut down.
One highlight is the "We Got Your Back" guarantee, which doesn't get enough attention. AppSumo guarantees access to any select tool you purchase for 12 months. If that tool shuts down within that window, you get store credit to find an alternative. That's a genuinely market-leading commitment — no other platform offers that kind of protection on software purchases.
Noah also makes an important point about the LTD community itself: buyers need to do their part too. Harassing partners, holding positive reviews hostage to demand increased limits or new features — that kind of behavior isn't sustainable and ultimately hurts everyone. When companies get pressured into offering more than they can sustain, it can contribute to the very closures people are upset about. It's the classic goose and the golden egg problem.
Site Behaviour: A Privacy-Friendly Google Analytics Alternative
Site Behaviour positions itself as a Google Analytics alternative with a focus on simplicity. You add a small code snippet to your website and the data starts flowing — visitor journeys, device information, geographic data, and more. The standout feature is the funnel visualization that tracks a visitor's entire journey from entry page through to where they drop off. All of this works with zero configuration, which is genuinely impressive.
Beyond basic analytics, there are CRO (conversion rate optimization) tools including session recordings and heat maps. There's a caveat with heat maps, though: if your site uses Cloudflare (or Shopify, which runs on Cloudflare), heat maps won't work yet. A fix is reportedly in progress. There's also a simple feedback widget you can embed on your site for gathering quick user input and bug reports — nothing fancy in terms of customization, but it's effectively bundled in for free.
On the privacy front, Site Behaviour claims full GDPR compliance. They don't collect personally identifiable information and anonymize all data. Users can't be identified or tracked across websites. However, if you enable their return-visitor tracking feature, you will need to display a cookie banner — and that's not included with the tool, so you'll need to provide your own.
The main drawbacks are limited integrations, no public dashboard for sharing metrics, and no e-commerce attribution tracking. That last one is a significant gap for online store owners. The lack of a public or embeddable dashboard also means using this for client sites is awkward — each client would essentially need their own lifetime deal. There was some debate in the comments about whether the tracking script slows down websites. Testing showed no measurable impact on PageSpeed Insight scores, though at least one user reported significant slowdowns on their site. Score: 7.8 out of 10.
Kroto: AI Screen Recording That Builds Knowledge Bases
Kroto is an AI-powered screen recording and documentation tool with a clever workflow. Install the Chrome extension, hit record, walk through whatever process you want to document, and the AI takes your recording and generates a full written article from it. On top of that, it can create a polished video with AI voiceover — particularly useful if you're not comfortable on camera, need content in a different language, or just want a quick professional-looking walkthrough.
The knowledge base feature is what sets Kroto apart from more general-purpose tools. Every article you create lives in a knowledge base, and each knowledge base gets its own custom domain. If your AppSumo tier includes five knowledge bases, that's five custom domains — meaning you could run documentation sites for multiple businesses or clients from a single account. That's a genuinely compelling use case.
Compared to something like Video to Page, which is a more general-purpose video-to-content converter, Kroto is specifically built for accumulating structured knowledge on a subject. Video to Page gives you more flexibility for blog posts, podcast show notes, and other content types, while Kroto is laser-focused on knowledge bases and how-to documentation. It's worth noting there's no webcam recording — it's screen-only, which likely helps keep storage costs manageable for a lifetime deal.
There were some bugs during testing, but nothing show-stopping. The feature set hits a nice sweet spot: enough customization for most users without being overwhelming. The AI voiceover quality is decent, though the voice chosen for the demo had an occasional stutter at certain points — unintentionally making it sound more human, perhaps. The AI script cleanup feature works well, automatically removing filler words and cleaning up your narration. Score: 7.3 out of 10.
Doplac: The All-in-One Business Platform That Does Everything
Doplac bills itself as a CRM, but that barely scratches the surface. This is an all-in-one business management platform covering CRM, project management, email marketing, cold email outreach, website building, social media management, calendar booking, forms, and more. The sheer breadth of features is staggering, especially at a starting price of $79 for a lifetime deal.
The tools mostly work well. Cold email and email marketing run as completely independent systems with their own sending infrastructure. Project management is functional. The CRM does what you'd expect. But the trade-off for doing everything is that nothing goes particularly deep. Think of it like a buffet — you get a lot of food on your plate, but none of it is going to rival a dedicated restaurant. Individual features lack the depth and polish you'd find in specialized tools.
One common concern in the community was whether Doplac is a white-label of GoHighLevel, given how many features it packs in. A DNS check puts that theory to rest: GoHighLevel white-labels use a specific CNAME record pointing to whitelabel.ludacris.cloud, while Doplac's app resolves to a Hetzner server in Germany. It's its own product.
The bigger worry is sustainability. Putting all your business operations into a single tool — especially a relatively new one on a lifetime deal — is a risk. If the platform goes down, everything goes with it. Some bugs remain, and certain features are still in development, though issues were the exception rather than the rule. For someone who wants maximum value per dollar and doesn't mind some rough edges, Doplac delivers a lot. For anyone who prefers to diversify their tools and minimize risk, this one might cause some anxiety. Score: 6.7 out of 10.
Final Thoughts on This Week's AppSumo Deals
This was a solid week on AppSumo with a nice variety of tools across different categories. Survey Noodle and Doplac both scored 6.7 out of 10 — promising tools that need more polish before they're ready for prime time. Site Behaviour came in strongest at 7.8, offering a genuinely useful analytics alternative with great privacy credentials. Kroto landed at 7.3 with its focused approach to AI-generated documentation and knowledge bases.
Perhaps the most significant takeaway this week wasn't a product at all, but Noah Kagan's State of AppSumo address. The lifetime deal space has been through some turbulence with recent closures, and seeing the platform take ownership and lay out concrete plans to improve partner quality and buyer protection is reassuring. The "We Got Your Back" guarantee alone makes AppSumo a safer bet than buying directly from unknown SaaS startups.
As always, full-length dedicated reviews for each of these tools are available on the channel if you want to go deeper before making a purchase decision. Check the show notes for links to everything mentioned in this roundup.
