What Is Alli AI?
Alli AI is an SEO tool that uses artificial intelligence to give you step-by-step directions for improving your on-site SEO and search engine rankings. Beyond on-page optimization, it also includes a backlink component that uses three different algorithms to generate ideas for backlinks, giving you outreach targets to help build domain authority.
At the time of this review, Alli AI was running a lifetime deal on AppSumo starting at $49 per code. The tool promises to handle keyword tracking, site audits, and link building recommendations all in one platform. The question is whether it actually delivers on those promises.
Pricing and Code Stacking Explained
The stacking structure for this AppSumo deal is a bit unusual. From one to four codes, you get access to 25 domains total regardless of how many codes you purchase. What does scale with each code is the number of keywords (100 per code), URLs (100 per code), and user seats (one additional user per code).
Every plan tier includes 100 to 150 link recommendations, a 35-point on-site analysis, up to 700 on-page optimization suggestions, at least 50 outreach recommendations, 250 to 500 brand and local citations, and up to 4,000 competitors analyzed per domain. Once you hit five codes, you access an additional 25 domains. At ten codes ($490), domains jump from 50 to 100. That's a significant investment for a lifetime deal, so the tool really needs to prove its value.
Setting Up Your First Site
After redeeming the AppSumo code, the setup process starts with adding a domain. I entered my website and Alli AI began analyzing it almost immediately. It was surprisingly quick to pull up recommended keywords, though the suggestions were questionable right out of the gate. The tool recommended keywords like "vio" and "margin" for a site about lifetime software deals, which had no relevance whatsoever.
The interface shows standard SEO metrics alongside each keyword: current ranking, monthly search volume, estimated cost per click, and an "Alli Score" that supposedly estimates how much additional monthly revenue you'd gain by optimizing for that keyword. The revenue estimate is a curious metric since the tool has no way of knowing your business model, pricing, or margins. It's a nice idea in theory, but without context it's essentially a meaningless number.
Keyword Selection and the Focus Keyword Problem
One of my biggest frustrations with Alli AI is the focus keyword workflow. After adding your keywords, the tool picks one as the "focus keyword" and generates all of its outreach recommendations and task lists around it. The problem? It never asks you which keyword should be the focus. It just picks one on its own, and in my case it chose "stencil" — a keyword related to a specific software tool, not the overall theme of my website.
This meant that every outreach suggestion, every link building recommendation, and every content task was optimized around the wrong keyword. Changing the focus keyword after the fact forces the tool to re-analyze everything, which took roughly 45 minutes. That's wasted time and wasted server resources that could have been avoided with a simple prompt during the setup process asking which keyword matters most to you.
On-Page and Technical Recommendations
After the analysis completed, Alli AI generated 192 tasks broken into categories: niche links, on-page optimizations, outreach opportunities, and on-site (technical) optimizations. The on-page recommendations were pretty basic — add alt tags to images and write more content. Not exactly groundbreaking SEO advice, though the tool did provide a writing guide when you clicked into the "add more content" task.
The technical analysis flagged a content-fitting issue, claiming some elements forced horizontal scrolling on certain devices. When I checked this manually using Chrome DevTools across multiple device viewports (iPhone X, iPad, Galaxy S5), everything displayed perfectly. The tool didn't explain its testing methodology, so it's hard to know whether this was a false positive or based on some obscure browser configuration. I also ran into a broken link in the interface where clicking on a URL task resulted in a 404 error because the tool was prepending its own domain to the target URL.
Backlink and Outreach Suggestions
The backlink recommendations are split into three categories: brand links, niche links, and outreach opportunities. The brand links section suggests websites where you should create profiles to build brand recognition. For my site, it recommended Goodreads, Bandcamp, Food.com, Reverb Nation, and Bark.com (a local services directory). None of these have any relevance to a tech review website. Even sorting by relevance, the highest-scoring suggestion was an IT jobs site at only 21% relevance.
The outreach opportunities were similarly off-target, generating suggestions like "how to find stencil a floor" because it was still keyed to the wrong focus keyword. While the tool does provide email templates for outreach, the value disappears entirely when the target websites have nothing to do with your niche. The niche links section suggested platforms like Medium, Y Combinator, Instagram, Glassdoor, and RetailMeNot — a mix of generic social platforms and completely irrelevant directories.
The Upsell Problem
A significant portion of the Alli AI dashboard is dedicated to "Done For You" SEO services, which are essentially upsells ranging from $749 to $3,000. The three tiers cover brand link building, niche link building, and outreach campaigns. The top-tier outreach package promises 9 to 16 posts on "authority sites" for $3,000, but the descriptions are vague — no details on post length, site quality metrics, or specific deliverables.
For a $49 lifetime deal product, having such prominent upsells feels aggressive. The "Done For You" option even has a green notification bullet on the sidebar, and there are upsell prompts scattered throughout the interface. SEO services are expensive by nature, but the way these are presented feels more like the core business model than a supplementary offering. If the main tool provided outstanding value, premium services would be a natural extension. Instead, the tool feels like a funnel for the services.
Red Flags: Website Credibility Issues
Before wrapping up, I did some due diligence on Alli AI itself. Searching "Alli AI" on Google returned a Reddit post titled "Alli AI What a Scam" as the third result. The content of that post isn't necessarily damning — anyone can complain on Reddit — but the fact that it ranks third for their own brand name is telling. Alli AI literally offers brand building and link building services, yet they haven't managed to push a negative Reddit post off the first page of Google for their own company name.
Their website also raises credibility concerns. There's a logo carousel featuring brands like MTV, Staples, New York Times, and World Series of Poker, implying these are clients. Yet the testimonials section features quotes from small businesses and even an anonymous "Todd." There are no case studies connecting those big logos to actual results. In the SEO industry, where trust is everything and charlatans are everywhere, the disconnect between the implied client roster and the actual social proof is a significant red flag.
Final Verdict: Skip This One
I'm giving Alli AI a score of 4.2 out of 10, and I'd recommend passing on this deal. The keyword suggestions were irrelevant, the backlink recommendations were generic and unhelpful, the focus keyword workflow is poorly designed, the technical analysis produced questionable results, and the interface has bugs like broken links. Add in the aggressive upselling and credibility concerns, and there's just not enough value here to justify even the $49 entry price.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly SEO tool to get started, head over to Neil Patel's Ubersuggest at neilpatel.com. It's completely free and provides genuinely useful keyword data, site audits, and competitive analysis. Once you outgrow that, consider investing in a proven platform like Ahrefs or SEMrush. Your SEO budget is better spent on tools with a track record of delivering real results.
